Baga Nimba Tribe Carving

The most important of the Baga art forms is the great mask, D’mba or Nimba. The Baga Nimba carving represents a ceremonial headdress used in important rituals and ceremonies within the Baga society.

Different tribes have their own stylistic traditions for making art, and these often reflect the values of the group. These wooden sculptures are created by the Baga people, an ethnic group inhabiting the coastal region of Guinea in West Africa.

”Nimba is the joy of living; it is the promise of abundant harvest”
