Antique Japanese paulownia braziers, also known as “hibachi,” are traditional heating devices used in Japanese households and tea ceremonies. Hibachi were historically used for heating rooms, cooking food, and boiling water, and they were often adorned with intricate carvings, lacquer work, or metal fittings to enhance their aesthetic appeal.

Today, they serve as planters or cache pots whilst reflecting the rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship of Japan’s traditional woodworking traditions.
