Kyō-yaki, decorated Japanese ceramics produced in Kyōto from about the middle of the 17th century. Most Kyo-yaki ceramics are made with an overglaze painting technique in which figures are painted on burned pottery, resulting in special characteristics that make the originality of each ceramist come across clearly in his or her work.
