Hojalata Christmas Ornaments - Poinsettia A

One of the least known, most versatile, and most beautiful expressions of Mexican folk art is hojalata (tin art work), also known in some parts of Mexico as, lamina or lata. Since the 1500's, this humble metal has been made more pleasing by being shaped, stamped, punched, painted and cut into a wide variety of decorative and functional artwork.

We worked directly with a family-run business headed by Victor Hernández Leyva and his daughter Mary de Lourdes Hernández Montes. Located in the Southeast of Mexico in the city of Oaxaca, they have more than 50 years of experience making Hojalatas.

Our inspiration really came from the Baz Luhrmann's 1996 version of Romeo and Juliet. Breaking tradition of what a christmas tree should look like, a change might not be a bad thing.

All Hojalatas are limited in quantity and will only be sold till December 2023.
